DESCRIPTION:Food program designed to improve the health and nutrition of senior citizens, pregnant women, postpartum mothers, infants, and children. Participants receive a free box of commodities once a month, which includes juice, canned fruits, canned vegetables, milk (dry/evaporated), cereal (ready/cooked), cheese, a starch item, and a protein item. Boxes weigh between 35 and 40 pounds.

INTAKE PROCEDURE:Register at an intake site during designated days in May/June; When registering, participants will be given a card & their designated/closest distribution site; Distribution begins in July

If a senior is unable to register themselves, they can send someone in their place; The person must bring a letter from the senior specifically giving them permission to register & receive the box on their behalf, along with all necessary documents for the senior listed below


DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:Valid identification (Driver's License or State ID); Proof of household income; Proof of child's date of birth (birth certificate); Proof of Harris County residency (Harris County address must be listed on ID or can bring utility bill or lease agreement)

ELIGIBILITY:Minimum age 60 and at or below 130% of FPL OR Women who are pregnant, women who are breast-feeding, women under one year postpartum, and/or infants/children ages 0-6 who do not receive WIC and are at or below 185% FPL; Do not have to be a U.S. citizent to participate in the program
